PhD student in ESPM won the FMCG Best Paper Award

We are delighted to announce that WANG, Xiaoqing, a first-year PhD student in ESPM, has been awarded the Financial Markets and Corporate Governance Best Paper Award 2024 in Malaysia. The paper "Do responsible firms behave differently in difficult times?" co-authored with Prof. Keith CHAN and Prof. Quentin MOREAU, won the Best Paper Award in the category of Corporate Governance/Social Responsibility.

The paper studies whether and what firms maintain their sustainability efforts or prioritize shareholders under challenging times. We present evidence that they tend to cut more dividends (paid to shareholders) and sustainability efforts than others and identify predictors of responsible firms that prioritize shareholders over other stakeholders when suffering financial losses.
