HKUST Exemplifies Sustainability Leadership at GSDC in Bangkok Taking 36th Spot Worldwide in Latest Impact Rankings on UN SDGs

Prof. Alexis LAU, Head of Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR) and Director of the Institute for the Environment (IENV), along with Prof. CHEN Fei, Professor of ENVR and Co-Chair of the Urban Prediction Project of World Meteorological Organization (WMO)’s World Weather Research Program, and Ms. Eva Yeung, Senior Manager of Community Resilience Service from Hong Kong Red Cross, recently participated in a session on the development of early warning systems for extreme weather at the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) in Bangkok.

They discussed the importance of personalized warnings tailored to vulnerable populations to reduce live losses and damages during extreme weather events. They also highlighted the collaboration between scientists, humanitarian organizations, and non-profit-making organizations in disseminating these crucial messages to communities.
