Eco-Industrial Development Model in Asia Pacific
Abstract

For decades, focus to tackle sustainability issues in industry has been in the production side until the turn of the new century that both consumption and production are put altogether in the new model. The presentation on Eco‐Industrial Development (EID) will look at how resource use efficiency, on one hand, and pollution intensity, on the other, could be integrated into a new system approach. Consumption‐oriented strategies such as LCA, &eco‐label, dfD, belign design, etc. are also synergized into the EID model. The presentation reviews the author's work in the region from late 90s and relates similar outputs in the neighboring economies in Asia Pacific. Some economies try to adopt optimization tools, with extensive need for data in MFA, SFA, LCA, and the like; while other developing economies rely heavily on the socio‐economic instruments such as market‐based economic instrument and suasive instrument.

Target audience: students and researchers in environmental economics, management, and engineering. Keywords: Eco‐industrial Development (EID), sustainable consumption and production (SCP), Conservation‐oriented Circular Economy (CCE).
