Malaysia RE Field Trip
Theme

To understand the sale of its natural resources, challenges for sustainability and environmental resources management in Malaysia, especially in Kuala Lumpur. The trip presented students with opportunities to discuss with experts on issues concerning biodiversity, ecosystem management, forest management, waste management, pollution, biomass and biofuels. As a bonus, students also got to enjoy some of Malaysia's natural beauty, culture and mingle with UKM students and Malaysians.

 

7 days 6 nights trip, visited locations include:
  • Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM)
  • Alam Flora - A solid waste management and disposal company
  • Biotec International -- Waste-to-energy related
  • Tasik Chini - the second largest freshwater lake in Malaysia
    • Tasik Chini research centre
    • Kampung Orang Asli Kg. Tanjung Puput - Introduction to the community biosphere reserve and cultural elements
    • Kempas & Kandis Trail - Brief introduction on tree diversity around PPTC
    • Fish Nursery Area
  • United Nations Development Programme's (UNDP) offices
  • Kuala Lumper's hottest tourist spots: The Royal Palace, Central Market, Petaling Street, the Twin Tower and Putrajaya
