Beijing Study Trip 2017
Sustainable City: Beijing is the capital of modern China, with a population over 20 Million in 2016 and a mega city still under tremendous development and changes, and yet with numerous historical heritages. In this time of rapid transformation, the city is facing a wide spectrum of environment and sustainability problems, from pollution management to urban planning, from energy to climate change. Not only the central and the local municipal governments are acting to address these issues via the implementation of various policies and/or control measures, there are a number of organizations and institutions in education and research, in business and various other sectors are working on the problems too (and, in particular in the business sector, to derive profits from doing so and grow). And we visited a number of these representative organizations in this trip and talked with the experts/practitioners face to face.
The 6-day, 5-night trip included visits to:
- Beijing Academy of Social Sciences
- Beijing Gaobeidian Sewage Treatment Plant
- China National Environmental Monitoring Center (CNEMC)
- Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention
- Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd.
- Tsinghua University
